I am staunchly anti-capital punishment, and it's not because I believe the state should never kill anyone at all under any circumstances. I just believe that as long as our justice system is so patently fucked up and unreliable -- while we have states like Texas promoting and salivating for it, Kentucky using methods vets won't use on dogs -- it cannot be an option. Period. This story is absolutely fucking horrifying, but a must-read because this kind of mistake happens much more often than it is reported. It's one of our nations dirty little secrets that really is not secret at all, making these cases even more of a disgrace. How many innocent people have to not only die, but as in the case of Cameron Todd Willingham be tortured at the hands of the court before being murdered by the system. Putting an innocent man in jail for murdering his daughters while he waits to die is definitely torture.
This is a long but necessary read.
