FYI

There are still 140,000 people without power in Louisville. We've had a gas and food shortage for the last two days. I don't know anyone with power in the city right now, so we're lucky we at least have my mom's country house to stay at...with at least one of our Directv receivers so we know what the fuck bullshit is going on with cable news. Fucking Christ, CNN and MSNBC piss me off. I've had to stop watching for the most part, other than MSNBC from 7pm-10pm.

We went back into town to grab some stuff today and in our neighborhood, a fairly poor part of town, you'd think the storm was this morning. In a four block radius around our house we counted 4 large whole trees still completely blocking roads, huge limbs lying across two power lines, I mean the area looked untouched. John threw out all the shit in the refrigerator yesterday, which is expensive to replace. The mayonnaise, dressings, sauces, and all the frozen shit we couldn't bring out here. I didn't go to Denver partially because I knew it would really screw us financially for a few weeks. Little did I know, we were already so fucked by that Sunday I may have needed to borrow money in order to get back. Needless to say, I had no idea we were so screwed (I let John start running the finances for the first time in his life around Feb. and have stayed out of it for the most part ever since to avoid money disputes). Had I gone we would be completely fucked right now, John can't work because none of his clients in IN have power either. Even still, I think we'll be OK. I just keep thinking of those poor families in our neighborhood who have to feed a large families (even our shitty new neighbors, I wonder if they're going to have to eat their fucking rooster that we keep finding in our yard). Thanks Ryder Cups cunts! Gotta have priorities, I guess. Although, had they not gotten UofL and the Ryder cup area up and running we'd have had a hell of more damage done to the local economy. It's just frustrating because our house is right by UofL and the fairgrounds, where the Valhalla shuttle service is running, and I know we probably won't get repaired until late this weekend simply because we live in a shitty, expendable part of town. Meanwhile, some in the West End (still referred to as the black section of town) are having to go to shelters for food because they either can't afford to go to another area to get more food and/or because store managers can't make enough ice at the few stores that are open in that part of town to keep up with demand. Louisville is a goddamn mess. No one was prepared for the damage at all, we thought we'd have some strong thunderstorms, maybe even tornado warnings, but not this kind of wide-spread damage. When we went back today I forgot that house is a wreck because I was right in the middle of painting upstairs. We abruptly picked up and came out here Sunday night expecting to be here for a day or so, maybe three at the most. Now it doesn't look like we'll be going back home before the weekend.

I forgot to mention, in defense of idiots driving around in what turned out to be 75 mph winds, it was a deceivingly nice day out, other than the hurricane force gusts. We never got a drop of rain, and it was partially sunny in between thin blankets of clouds. But still you'd think when you saw trees lying in the road and sheds flying in the air, you might want to stay inside.

We're just burning the stuff that came down out here, waiting for the power to come back on, John can't even work right now. And drinking, I hardly drink anymore, but we've all been drinking a little this week. Public schools have called the week off, so parents that can work have to stay home or find child care. Our child care provider has been out of water since late Monday because their idiot mayor sent both of their back up generators to Texas. We're lucky that I'm still home until our daughter starts preschool in a few weeks. That city is so fucked. People can't afford to take a week off work right now! I know we can't.

It occurred to me last night that there are a half million people in Southern Ohio that have no idea what's going on in the world right now. That sucks considering that McCain has been getting fucked the last few days and the whole election has majorly shifted. Not to mention the rest of world appears to be unraveling at the seams.

Anyway, I probably won't be posting a whole lot until I get back in case anybody gives a shit. [Also, I'm not going to edit, so if there are obvious typos you'll have to live with it until I have the patience and time to do so].
