Jed on Friedman's latest column, on the MSM McCain double standard (I wonder if the number cruncher can come up the ratio of negative/positive Obama stories relative to negative/positive McCain stories since the primaries and general):
I can't believe that nothing can be done to facilitate change or I'd immediately pack up and move to Costa Rica or Alaska, or somewhere other than KY. Money goes as money flows, there's still profit to be made in the truth, eventually. At this point, the question is whether the double-standard is simply a product of inertia -- which would suggest that the problem is fixable -- or whether there's something more insidious going on, something that won't ever change.
I already have my opinion on which it is. I hope that I'm proven wrong.
More and More.
What I don't understand is when the fuck did it become the accepted job of the media to point out every single perceived constituency/pigeon-holed problem "in order for him to win"? What about McCain's "voter problems"? Like more than half of the country that will never vote for a republican in this particular election cycle, no matter their political affiliation? I meet those folks quite often here in the McCain stronghold of KY. These fucking idiots have been telling us for a year what Obama's problems supposedly are, as if they're his self-appointed shrink or guidance counselor. Except no one's asking the media, but the media. Why should anyone care what the fuck individual, biased, and usually wrong pundits think? It requires repeating, apparently, these are of the same species as the spineless Hannity's that get their checks from the corporate media, whose only real function is to act as a huge facade (distraction clusterfuck) for protecting the corporate government's interests. And because McCain's sold his soul, again, to perpetuate that culture and rule in a dead year for the Republicans, he gets a smooth free ride. Years ago one could delude themselves into thinking that he would at least have the interest of the military personal on the ground in mind, but that bullshit was thrown out the window a long time ago, so what the fuck does he have? Foreign policy experience (which is laughable)? Seriously, what reason are his numbers so high, other than the fact that the media is biding their time by not handing out ANY real pertinent information about McCain's hypocrisy in order to maximize a long-term, lop-sided election cycle's profits? The reporters would rather hide behind the shameful "Aww shucks, the old man is so nice, he reminds me of my pop-pop. He throws good parties, and he's a fucking war hero, so lay off!" bullshit than the truth, which is they're just protecting their jobs. What the hell are they going to talk about if Obama begins to pull away? I suppose they'll keep bringing back Clintonzilla, and/or hypothesizing what kind of attack, scandal, or natural disaster will keep the Senator from Illinois from being elected, because they sure don't want the American public to get used to the idea of electing President Barack Obama, especially not as early as June.
