The music I'm listening to can sometimes be more influential in what I'm writing (here and other projects) than it probably should be. In order to reflect the next phase of the campaign it’s time for a change of music. For the most part I have been listening to the same 30-40 albums for probably the past six months. It's time to incorporate the other 550 albums I have. Emusic is the best thing that has ever happened to my music collection, but it keeps me on the same 10-12 albums for a month or two. I'm lucky enough to get 90 fucking downloads for $20 a month, and I'm learning that's an incredible deal; I don't even think they offer it anymore. For people that don’t listen to a lot of Indy/Underground/World music, or comedians, it’s probably not the best deal, though. The editor, who recommended the service to me in the first place, had to can his subscription because he couldn’t find 90 items to download a month. I have 87 “saved for later” albums, and constantly adding more, so usually that’s not a problem for me. Artists like My Morning Jacket (who was a last second add-on since I only had 5 downloads left) and Cat Power are just bands I wouldn’t normally seek out. Not because I don’t like them, but because I have a hundred other CD’s I’d rather buy if I have to pay full price for them (despite being from Louisville, I’d only heard one song by MMJ until I downloaded those 5, and I’d never heard any Cat Power, now I’m in love with her). If they carry it, I end up with this great music, previously unknown to me because someone makes a good suggestion, or I hear one song that makes me look the band up. I can download it for what amounts to usually no more than a few dollars per album. And because I’m not a dick who is trying to fuck anyone, if I really like an album, a lot of the time I’ll eventually a physical copy, mostly because I’m kind of a collector. They have lots of albums (especially punk) that cost me next to nothing to download, but would cost me $20 or more for the CD, if I could even find it. I just downloaded my ninety about a week ago and have played the fucking shit out of them, so before I get really sick of them, I’m gonna switch it up. It'll reflect my mood a lot more accurately as I’ll be making brand new playlists, but with the Primary over I’m not going to be a giddy, happy person most of the time once the ruthless attacks start, so it'll probably be reflected by a lot of hardcore, metal, and punk on the jukebox. Also including my various preferences for summer music (like the Pixies), all of which can make me a hyper spazz, so I apologize in advance. If I can ever figure out how to do it, I'll upload some obscure shit to share.
I honestly don't know what the fuck I'd do without my music. Hopefully, by the time I lose my hearing, we'll have ipods implanted in our brains. So, anyway, if I come off a little bitchier or dickish in my posts than usual (is that possible?) , now you know why. If only you cared.
End Emusic Advert.
