Relationship Between Earthquakes, Mining, & Dam Construction

Chris in Paris ponders the link between dams, reservoirs, and earthquakes, siting a 2002 BBC article, after the recent Chinese quake and it's aftershocks.

"There's no question that if you dig a big enough reservoir, you're going to get earthquakes.

"The Three Gorges Dam in China is going to be a big problem," he told BBC News Online.

With 69 dams on the verge of bursting in China, and the threat even greater after this morning's aftershock, the correlation will no doubt eventually be investigated. By who, I suppose is up to the Chinese government.
