On The Lighter Side Of The Campaign

The NYT published an article about Senator Obama's body man, Reggie Love, who is near him as an aide most of the time while he's out on the campaign trail. I'll have to forgive and forget that he was a, bleech, Blue Devil. There some interesting tidbit stuff in the piece that, if you're a loyalist like me, you might enjoy. It sounds like Mr. Love is the perfect fit to be Senator Obama's aide/buddy.

And I do absolutely love that our next president can play, it's just a comforting fact to this KY-born girl. If you're not from here (or North Carolina, or one of the other dominant collegiate basketball towns/states), you may not understand. It's not like bowling, and I really like bowling, it's just not even comparable. Here, you're either born with a ball in your hand or you hate sports. We can all play basketball, yes, all, even us short ones. Part of the reason why it means more to me than it probably should is because basketball is a team game. It's one that requires belief in the system, teammates (who are sometimes young & inexperienced) and coach, stamina, perseverance, sharpness, quick-thinking, calculated risk taking, and up to the buzzer dedication. You have to be swift in admitting and learning from your mistakes in order to adjust on the fly. It's very similar to hockey in as far as those traits are concerned. Only in hockey you have to be just the right amount of crazy, which is not a requirement of basketball. Maybe somebody should take this analogy to the Eastern part of the state. Sadly, many of those people live and die by the Cat's and what they do. They may not understand Obama = best candidate for the working class and the impoverished, but they do understand basketball.

Anyway, I'm thankful for Mr. Love making our candidate's hectic life a little more predictable. A few years ago I bet he never thought he'd be so glad he was cut by the Packers and the Cowboys. Either way, I would have probably hated him if were playing for either of those rival teams, I'm glad to be able to appreciate him for his noble work instead.
