Because this will not go away… in regards to Michelle Obama’s statement about only having one chance to elect them, and the supposed baffling that has ensued out of it: This is the one chance. This is it. The political climate was so bad over the last 7 years that people were looking for anything in the way of significant change by way of who/what (I refuse to recognize corporations as equal citizens) Washington is controlled. People who might have had an issue voting for Barack ½ Kenyan Hussein Civil-Rights Lawyer Liberal Obama will consider it right now. The only way to fuck it up is to send those same people back into their fear trance so they forget how and why we're in this overall mess in the first place. Stifling supposed sentiments like “we brought it on ourselves” is a broad sweeping dismissal of any responsibility for what the Clinton’s did in the 90’s, but also what has happened in Afghanistan and Iraq. All the while attempting to put Obama in the “them” category, trying to actively remove his we are all “us” baseline. Touting the troop escalation, diminishing Iraq outrage (seeing 4000 coffins and countless dead Iraqis would be a real drag), promoting Iraq “fatigue” while still scaring the shit out of undecides just long enough that they won't vote for the guy who just might not be who he says he is. It’s like my grandmother once told me, “I’d be scared of a black man if he was standing outside on the street in the dark,” “You’d be scared of any man standing out there in the dark,” “Maybe, but I’d be more scared of a black man, I know it’s wrong, and I shouldn’t be, but I would be (She’s 87 years old and is rooting for Obama).” Some of them know it’s stupid and irrational, but it’s something that is ingrained in them, and has been solidified over the last 7 years of racial profiling of all non-whites, reinforcing public perception that it’s OK to treat black folks differently than white folks (Katrina/Levee Breaks, the ever growing prison population discrepancy), and the entire African continent and Middle Eastern Region is to be avoided for any reason, unless you’re there to dance or hang out with your buddies. The Obama's knew that this was what they were up against, and this was before the race baiting by a Popular Democratic Ex-President, his front-runner wife, and his powerful friends/supporters, say nothing of the media and the right. So, this is it, she knew they were going to try to destroy him, and the voting public has the choice to either say, "Fuck You, not this time, and never again," or as Senator Obama conveyed in his eloquent speech last week, we can continue to do things the same old way. Never move beyond the control that the media, crooked career politicians on both sides of the aisle, corporations, and the fear they hold over our democratic process. This is it, because if we don’t elect this man, the social implications are far reaching, and will be devastating to the long-term status of not only the United States, but the world.
