"George Carlin: It's Bad For Ya" 10:00pm EST On HBO

Papa Carlin (what my daughter, who is named after Mr. Carlin, calls him) has a new LIVE HBO special tonight at 10:00pm EST. We saw him on this tour twice, once in the earlier stages last spring in Indy, and once in Louisville a few months ago when it was near perfection (at least that's what the audience conveyed). This should be another great set if those two shows were any indication. I still get excited for a new Carlin stand-up special in the same way that I did as a little kid on a timely weekend stay at my dad's house (we only had 4 channels at my mom's house, my dad had cable, HBO, and a RoadRunner video store at the end of our street that would let me rent anything - shit like "Faces of Death"). No other single person has consistently made me feel OK about who I am throughout my entire life. I don't know who I'd be without him.

Rachel Sklar has an awesome interview with Mr. Carlin here.
