Here's another great post by Jon Soltz, and I completely agree that Iran is just another political ploy, one that they're willing to gamble on to induce open-ended fear. But my god, 6 years on and there are still poll numbers hovering around 50% in regard to military action against Iran? And Steve Young (not the former 49ers QB) adds another disturbing contribution to the numbers: Only 29% identified as liberal voters believed the NIE Intelligence report. Only 18% overall believe that Iran has ended its nuclear weapons program. Who the hell are they polling? I am not discounting polls, but am skeptical of lead-in questions and the wording being used. Having never been polled in my entire life for anything other than marketing, I can't speak from experience. I would really love to know how they get half--or more than half--of the country to say we should or will engage in military action with Iran. It shouldn't need to be said that this is just about the stupidest thing this country could do right now, much more ignorant than lying down our guns for the Iraqis and taking off all at once (and that is ca-ra-zy).
Do you know any Iranians? If you do and haven't asked them about how they feel in all this, please do. I bet they'll tell you how fucking batshit crazy this President is when it comes to relations with Iran. Iran is a relatively progressive country with a small faction of right wing nut cases, kind of like here. If we attack Iran in any way we'll be making a (new) lifetime of enemies out of those that would otherwise, for the most part, be our allies. Although as Captain Soltz points out, that's not really the objective.
